So, I've never actually written a story using first person, and I'm curious to try it. So I want to write one to try it out.

I've been thinking about writing from the point of view of Ascaris (I'm torn between the name Ascaris and Dracun, still deciding) who is Scollex's brother (they're both named after something relating to parasitic worms). He hasn't appeared yet before, but I want to add more antagonists to my story universe thingy. So far I have Glen, which is an enemy mainly to Kage (however he's also hostile towards the others due to them being killers and stuff), and Scollex, who is also an enemy to Kage (but he might get along with Zehnder or something). Ascaris might be a little different when it comes to motives though. Won't spoil anything.

Anyway, this should be an interesting thing for me, might write it today, but chances are slim 'cause I don't think I'll have time to.

I want to know which name you guys think is better, Ascaris or Dracun.

Ascaris sounds scarier. Dracun almost sounds like Duncan, which isn't very scary...

What I like to do is get into the mindset of the character I'm going to be writing about. What are they going to feel if I put them in a certain situation. It does help a lot if you try it

I prefer Ascaris. It sounds pretty cool!

About the first person thing, I like writing in first person, as it lets me express what the character is feeling, the world from its point of view and drees other characters' intentions' up: the main character thinks something which is different from reality, but the reader can't know further than the narrator, so it hasn't got more information than I really what it to receive. It allows the writer to help the reader to know more about the narrator's personality, or maybe to hide its identity until some point.

However, I have to say that writing in first person limits you to focus on only that character's opinion, so you can't switch to other character's point of view, something of the third person's style I like. You can't change the place where the actions are taking place or talk about (for example) the report thatthe spy who's following the main character is writing, or the different problems each member of a party is habing while completing a mission. Third person can write many character's stories which are connected at once easily (like when a character activates a switch which opens a door, something which helps another member of the party and stuff), while with a first person style the reader and the writer have to make an extra effort, to know what's going on who the one who speaks is in the reader's case and give enough details to not make people get lost in the writer's

I prefer first person stories, since I like to "pretend" I'm the character and then I can think easily on what he or she would do on each situation. Although, I've written a fanfic in third person and I have to say it was fun to do, and I really liked how it turned out. Both styles are a good option, so, to sum up, I'll give you my opinion, what I would do, and what I always think before writing some fanfiction: think on the type of story you want to write. Does it have a lot of action? Are there characters? Lots of temporal skips? Is it very personal? Do you want to make some chars hide secrets? Are you gonna talk about a single story or are there some included? If there are, are those important enough for the reader to get the story?

There are more, surely, and maybe I don't answer so many before typing, but it helps sometimes. I'm sure you maybe knew this, but I wanted to give you my opinion anyway :)

Good luck with the story!

Ugh, I wrote a little speech without noticing xD

XD what a speech

Yeah I've been wanting to experiment with the first person, although I don't event think I'm going to go into second person.

One of the things that I'm weary about when writing in first person is that it's only with that one character, as in it can't go see what the other characters are doing somewhere else without the protagonist being there, but it should be interesting.

Ype, I know :iconjeffthekillerlol:

I haven't tried on second person. The weirdest thing I've written is a fanfic where a guy's in a sanatorium, talking to himself (even shouting at himself) and telling aloud how he met Slender Man for the first time and how his life slowly ruined until he reached the bottom and was enclosed in that place. However, second person's something I don't like. I prefer to be "talking" to a "you", no matter if it's an independet char, the main character (both in past and present tense) or a narrator that doesn't take part in the story. I should try to write something in second person, even if the examples I've read aren't very attractive, just to see if I can do it, but I don't think I'd submit it.

I usually write stories where there aren't many characters and those are together most of the time, so first person's usually the best option for me. I write in that person too when I want to focus on one character even having a lot more, because I want to explain things about it since the others are pretty well-known or because I want to hide something...

Once, I combined both persons: it was a story in third person which, in the end, was a story told by a character, who was talking to the reader directly with verbs in present tense. I change to change and try different things :)

I'd like to see how you expose a first person story, as I've only seen you writting in third person. It sounds interesting ^^

Seriously, why do I have no problem on writing long comments and when I want to write a fanfic it turns so hard? xD

Yeah one of the reasons that I don't like second person is that it's kind of pushy; like telling the reader what they did, I don't really like that. I prefer it to be like someone reading or telling a story.

Same here! I suppose that's why not many writers use that style... People don't like to be told what they have to do (or had to do, I guess) the whole time! Third and first person are more natural.
