Forgotten Past - Part 1 - Chapter 1

Around 21 years ago in Japan there was a city. This city seemed normal, like the others, but it had something different about it; it was plagued by two resident demons and two wandering shinigami (Death god).

Unfortunately for the citizens of this city, the shinigami and demons did what one would expect them to do; murder people. Although once in a while someone managed to wound one of them, the creatures always got away with their malicious deeds. And like many creatures of this sort, most people thought of them as just a myth to frighten children.

“Don’t stay up past dark or the demons will get you!” People would tell children to prevent them from staying out at night. Contrary to most of their beliefs; these creatures were all too real.

Although shinigami of this sort were mostly solitary, these two were different. They were brothers, the older was named Ascaris, and the younger was called Scollex. They mostly hunted alone, although once in a while they would team up to do their work differently.

The demons and shinigami didn’t exactly get along with each other, and mostly avoided one another. While the shinigami were stronger, the demons were more agile; although the shinigami were immortal, while the demons were not.

Similar to shinigami; demons were often solitary and worked alone. However, like Ascaris and Scollex, the two resident demons worked together. The two of them, a male and female, worked together on most of their kills. Although they started as just partners, they quickly grew to friends, and then fell in love.

The female was named Yoruyuki (Night snow) because of her long black hair, pale white skin, and silvery gray eyes. While she didn’t have claws like most demons, her weapon of choice was two silver daggers with ebony handles.

The male was named Kuraitsume (Dark talon) because of his large black claws that extended from each finger. His weapon of choice was his claws, but he sometimes used his sharp teeth as well.

The two of them fell in love with each other, and Yuki soon became pregnant. Fearing for the child’s safety, the couple fled to the woods. They knew that if the humans found out, they would stop at nothing to prevent the demon to grow into another killer. The shinigami wouldn’t care for another demon either, and would probably kill the child if they found them.

They managed to find an old house in the woods, and repaired and fixed it into a decent homestead and decided to live there. It was perfect; as it seemed that humans never ventured that far into the woods, nor entered the house, and the shinigami didn’t know of its existence.

In the safety of their new home, Yuki gave birth to a healthy baby boy. They named him Kagekao (Shadow face) because when he was happy, his eyes seemed to glow a white light, and when he was sad, they seemed to take away light; leaving shadows.

Away from the dangerous humans and shinigami alike; Kurai and Yuki were able to raise their child in safety.
